Sap Solution Manager 7.2 Focused Solutions

SAP Focused Run — a brief overview

Saloni Narang

In this post I am going to explain about SAP focused run , what it actually is and what its not. Since I have tried it and have some experience about it so I will be explaining everything based on my experience solely.

What is Focused Run:

According to the official documentation "SAP Focused R un is a spin-off from SAP Solution Manager concentrating on the specific needs of high volume system and application monitoring, alerting and analytics needs".This means Focused Run is the part of SAP's Focused Solutions family that is used to monitor large landscapes and addresses service providers and selected customers with advanced needs.
Currently SAP Focused Solutions family consist of three members:
1. Focused Build:It includes support for distributed development team as well as to automate test case creation.
2. Focused Insights:This is also addon to Solution Manager, that leads to easy creation of customer specific dashboards.
3. Focused Run:This is an isolated installation addressing specific needs of high volume monitoring use cases and can run in parallel with SAP Solution Manager or SAP Landscape management.

Focused Run uses the full power of SAP HANA as a platform, including replication, partitioning, predictive analytics, and compression. It is a separate installation running on top of SAP's proven ABAP technology powered by SAP HANA and can run side-by-side with existing tools like SAP Solution Manager or SAP Landscape Management.
Focused Run is financed by a volume based and yearly rental license model and can be acquired via SAP digital store.

Benefits of Focused Run:
1. Optimized for high volume system and application monitoring use cases using the full power of SAP HANA.
2. Extremely simplified architecture and reduced total cost of ownership.
3. Built-in security concept.
4. Maximum of automation during assignment and maintenance of managed systems

Focused Run Use Cases

The following use cases are supported by Focused Run for SAP Solution Manager:
Advanced System Management (ASM): These applications allow you to monitor systems, databases and operating systems for the whole solution landscape.
Advanced User Monitoring (AUM): This is to monitor real user request, including advanced end user tracing. In this user scenarios are scripted and are executed on regular basis on robots which are installed in different locations. This is a generic monitoring capability which can be used for SAP and non-SAP web based applications.
Advanced Integration Monitoring (AIM): This application provides monitoring of data exchange processes between different systems within a solution landscape or between systems and public cloud services.
Advanced Event and Alert Management (AEM): This application is the central access point to handle alerts from different use cases like system monitoring, user monitoring and integration monitoring.
Advanced Configuration Monitoring (ACM): This application provides an overview of the changes that have been applied to systems, databases, and operating systems.
Advanced Root Cause Analysis (ARA): A dedicated application for System Analysis provides an overview on actual and historic monitoring data from the whole system landscape, with a large variety of customizing possibilities in the user interface.
Advanced Dashboarding and Intelligence (ADI): The integration of monitoring, alerting, and analytics enable a one-stop user experience, which offers customization features for the user.
